Other People's Trash

Thu Sep 3, 2009, 12:14 PM
I just started a documentary project. I am hoping I can use it as my senior project, but if I can't, I am going to continue it on my own. I am really enjoying it.

Dumpster Diving: One man's trash is another man's treasure. It may occationally brink on the edges of theft, but nine times out of ten "its more of a rescue mission." You can't image what people just throw away. Bikes, nearly new clothes, Waterford Crystal... we've found it all and so much more. We've given bums sleeping on the ground cots we've found in the dumpsters down the street. The guys have built bikes out of parts they've found. The local bike shops throw out stuff still in the wrappers, and others barely used. The list goes on and on, but why do we do it? The adventure, the story, and mainly just because its fun.

Frustration

Mon Aug 17, 2009, 7:20 PM
So, I got the Nikon D300 for my birthday... an awesome upgrade. However, my computer couldn't read the RAW files. I tried to download new drivers and it screwed up the whole computer so it wouldn't even start up. Who knows why. Luckily my boyfriend knew how to do a system reset and I was at least running my old software again. So a I spent money, that I don't actually have, on CS4 to solve the problem. This worked wonderfully. For about 3 weeks. Now, my graphics card shut down, I only know it was the graphics card because of the long beep, 3 short beep distress call it let off. My dad tried to order me a new one (he has the warranty for the dead one I have right now and was going to work it out that way) but newegg wouldn't ship to an address different then the billing address, so I had to reorder it. Now I'm playing the waiting game. Summer is practically over, there will be snow again before too long, and school required shooting again. I'll have almost no time to shoot for my personal desire. So this summer has sucked for photography.

Not to mention the bum knee that ruined the bike trip of a lifetime.

Spring 09

Sat May 30, 2009, 4:55 PM
Well I finished off last semester with a bang! Contemporary Euro Nationalism: A. Mythology & Literature: A. Studio II: A-. 3.88 which brought my overall GPA up to a 3.64. Whoo hoo!

This coming fall semester will be my last, and it's only part time! Women in US History and Senior Sem are my only two classes! I will officially graduate with my BA in Photography. Which combined with my Associates in Liberal Arts, will hopefully lead to a job even in this economy.

I will try to post some of my final images from Studio II here soon. It's just a little complicated. Which, if I can figure it out, you will understand when you see them. If not I will try to at least post some other new images soon! Sorry about the lack-luster updating.

I'm off to sew, clean, and enjoy this wonderful Chicago summer... for the three months it will last!

update

Last semester went well. Speech A. Digital Imaging II B. Art History II A. Photojournalism B. I'm happy. Just one more A or a B+ and I would have broken 3.6 though. I only have a 3.592 now. Phooey.

Things are very financially rough right now. I'm not actually making enough money to pay rent. Work had to cut my hours due to the economy being in such a lovely state.

New semester started last week. I'm in for an adventure again, as always.

Things are good.

Fall

Thu Sep 4, 2008, 9:01 AM
Fall is coming. Then the dreaded winter. Finally spring will follow.

Everything is going good. Andy and I moved into a much cleaner, well kept building. Our new apartment is beautiful and bigger then the old.

I got a B+ in View Camera, far better then I expected. I don't hate it as much as I thought I would either.

This semester I get to try my hand at Photojournalism and Digital II. Should be fun, and exciting. I will possibly also actually have something I can upload, since shooting all analog and not having a good scanner has been a tad bit of a detourant.

I want to be an ecologist. I miss Michigan. At least I have one of my Great Lakes here in Chicago.
